So, what does this do to your brain and body? Numerous scientific studies have shown that practicing gratitude can lead to significant physiological changes in the brain and body. MRI scans have revealed that expressing gratitude activates the brain’s reward pathways, releasing feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. These “happiness hormones” not only elevate mood but also promote overall well-being and reduce stress levels.
Furthermore, gratitude has been linked to lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, which can have detrimental effects on the body when chronically elevated. By reducing stress, gratitude can improve immune function, lower blood pressure, and even enhance cardiovascular health, leading to a longer and healthier life.
3 ways to cultivate gratitude in your life
There are many ways to cultivate gratitude in your daily life.
Number one, for me, is writing. Yes, I am a writer, but you do not have to be one to be able to bask in the power of writing your blessings to heal or elevate your energy. Simple practices like keeping a gratitude journal can make a world of difference when you suffer from depression.
