This “Crazy” Thing Can Change Your Life

It all started 25 years ago, I had just moved to China. I lived in a bustling Chinese neighborhood. I didn’t speak the language, didn’t understand the signs or the customs. But every morning across the street from my home, I saw something that spoke a language beyond words — a group of people, just sitting. Eyes closed. Smiling. Blissfully still.

One day, I stumbled across that group of serene, smiling strangers — and joined their quiet world. I can honestly said, that day changed my life.

I remember, I sat near them. I didn’t ask questions. I just closed my eyes and followed their stillness. And to my surprise, something shifted. My chaotic days transformed every time I joined them. Just like that. No words. No effort. Just quiet-medicine!

That one moment — completely ordinary and completely magical — planted a seed in me.

Fast forward 20 years, and that seed has become the center of my life. Back then, in my Latin/western world, meditation still wasn’t “cool.” I used to meditate in total darkness, privately, away from curious eyes. People around me thought it was weird, woo-woo, or even a little crazy. But I didn’t care. Because meditation made me feel like me in days when everyone expected that I became someone else!

In those quiet moments, I met parts of myself I didn’t know existed. I began to feel emotions I had buried, release tension I thought was normal, and heal wounds I didn’t know were open. It was like someone had handed me a key back to my soul. I remember a meditation led to an inspiration to write about a trauma that had been haunting me for my entire life, since childhood, and wow! what a release that was! I cried all night, but no longer tears of pain, but tears of total relief.

We meditate under full moons, calling in clarity and magic. We dive into the Law of Attraction, crafting our dream lives one breath at a time. And every time I record a new session, I’m reminded: this isn’t about teaching people to “meditate right.” It’s about helping people remember who they are.

One of my favorite teachers, Osho, said:

“Meditation is nothing but a device to make you aware of your real self — which is not created by you, which is not an invention… but a discovery.”

That quote lives in my heart. Because meditation, to me, has always felt like coming home.

Louise Hay also beautifully put it this way:

“Meditation is a way to quiet the mind and get in touch with the inner you. The answers are all inside of you.”

And it’s true. The more I sit in stillness, the more I realize that love, peace, joy, creativity — all of it — isn’t something I have to find “out there.” It’s already within me. Meditation just helps me remember.

Now, as I deepen my practice through yoga teacher training, something one of my teachers said stuck with me:

“Yoga is not something you do. It’s something you are. Meditation is not about technique. It’s your state of being.”

And that’s it. You don’t need incense, a cushion, or an hour of silence to meditate (although those can be lovely). You just need you. Your breath. Your presence.

If you’re someone who’s curious — or maybe skeptical — about meditation, I get it. I used to think it was a little odd, too. But if life feels overwhelming, if your nervous system is fried, if your heart is aching for connection or clarity… maybe, just maybe, this “crazy” thing could change your life, too.

The spiral of healing, of remembering, of creating your dream life starts with a single moment of stillness.

And I promise you — the magic? It’s real. I’ve lived it.
